‘Use Ramadan to promote unity, moral values in Pemba’

ZANZIBAR: LEADERS from the opposition party ACT Wazalendo have used Ramadan gatherings in Pemba to call for stronger social unity, compassion for the vulnerable, and better moral upbringing for children.

They stressed that peace and development depend on cohesive communities.

Chairman of the party, Mr Othman Masoud Othman, urged citizens to preserve the tradition of solidarity and peaceful coexistence that has long defined Zanzibar.

Speaking during a special Iftar he hosted in Chake-Chake, Pemba over the weekend, Mr Othman said unity among citizens is a key pillar for maintaining peace and advancing social and economic development.

“Zanzibar has a long history of civilization and social cohesion. Its people must continue to nurture unity, mutual respect, and love for one another,” he said.

He noted that the large turnout at the communal Iftar reflected the enduring spirit of togetherness on the islands.

Mr Othman added that cultural traditions of sharing and mutual support help strengthen social bonds and urged citizens to protect these values while avoiding actions that could cause divisions.

With only a few days left in Ramadan, he encouraged residents to use the time for reflection, forgiveness, and reconciliation, rejecting conflicts and hatred that undermine community wellbeing.
