Uongozi Institute, DPA sign MoU to enhance police officers’ knowledge

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Uongozi Institute and the Dar es Salaam Police Academy (DPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the latter to have access to diverse books and journals.

This agreement will enable police officers to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

The MoU was inked on Wednesday by the Uongozi Institute’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Kadari Singo and the DPA’s Commanding Officer (CO), Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP), Mr Lazaro Mambosasa at a signing ceremony which was held at the institute’s library in Dar es Salaam.

Mr Singo said the MoU will facilitate DPA’s police officers to access diverse books and journals written by top authors and academicians in the country and abroad, including from Oxford and Harvard universities that are collected in the institute e-library and conventional library.

He said the objective is to help the police officers build up a reading culture and enhance their efficiency in problem solving and decision making.

“Our institute’s library in Dar es Salaam has a total of 11,000 books while Dodoma has 6,000 books. Another 50,000 books are in our e-library,” he said.

Mr Singo said the books will also enable police officers to have a more rewarding career due to their broadened knowledge base, which is essential in triggering hard working spirit and innovation on transforming the police force.

For his part, SACP Mambosasa on behalf of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Camillus Wambura said the MoU is in line with President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of modernising the police force by having officers who catch up with digital transformation.

He said the DPA cherishes research and capacity building to police officers among others in confronting cyber-crimes that demand more soft skills than physical skills.

DPA’s Commanding Officer of Police Research Centre, Mr Ralph Meela who doubles as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) said police officers at the academy will access online reading resources, including latest journals and research articles by using their internet devices, including computers which are flexible in relation to their daily busy schedule.
