Uhuru Torch Race to inspect project worth 2.6bn /- in Mpanda
UHURU Torch Race is scheduled to inspect, launch and lay foundation on development projects valued at 2.6bn /- in Mpanda District, Katavi Region.
The Torch is expected to start its race tomorrow in Mpanda Municipality and it will proceed to Nsimbo Council on Saturday. Administratively Mpanda District has Mpanda Municipality and Nsimbo Council.
The Mpanda District Commissioner Ms Jamila Yusuph said the torch race will inspect various development projects worth over 2.6bn/-, to ensure quality and value for money on development schemes.
Giving a breakdown the DC said Uhuru Torch, while in Mpanda municipality will inspect over 1.7bn/- and in Nsimbo Council it will inspect 897.5m/- worth of projects.
Ms Yusuph expounded that projects the Uhuru Torch Race leaders are expected to launch include seven classrooms at Misunkumilo Primary School valued at 170m/- and a water project at Kapanda Village worth 265.2 m/-.
“In Mpanda Municipality the Uhuru Torch Race leaders will launch water project at Kakese ward valued 950m/- and a road.
She further said that basing on this year’s theme for Uhuru Torch race, which emphasises on caring for the environment, protecting water sources among others the region has implemented several projects.
She asked the people in his area to work hard for their own development, noting that the government has built infrastructure for the education, health and transport sectors in the precinct.
“The Torch symbolises Tanzania inside and outside the borders as well as motivate effective implementation of the development projects,” emphasised the DC.

The Mpanda Municipal Mayor Mr Haidary Summary said Tanzanians should be proud of witnessing the Uhuru Torch Race because it is something unique.
“People should make efforts to implement projects properly so that the Uhuru Torch Race inspects and lays foundation stones or launches them,” he stated.
He further asked Tanzanians to commit themselves to work hard as championed by the Uhuru Torch Race in order to bring about development in their areas and to the nation.
“The Uhuru Torch Race should continue motivating people to work hard and utilise the available opportunities because the government has put in place an enabling environment,” Mr John Embasi, a petty trader said.
