UDSM embraces AI in its efforts to transform service delivery through digital systems

DAR ES SALAAM: THE use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been said to be the fastest critical tool for boosting institutional efficiency, with the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) stepping up deliberate efforts to transform service delivery and performance through digital systems.
Acting Chairperson of the University Council, Moremi Marwa, said the rapid pace of global change demands institutions to fully embrace technology to simplify operations and raise productivity.
Speaking on April 22, 2026, while opening a special meeting of the UDSM Workers’ Council in Dar es Salaam, Marwa underscored the growing role of AI in enhancing service quality and strengthening institutional decision-making.
“Technology, particularly artificial intelligence, plays a major role in simplifying work, improving service quality and strengthening institutional decisions,” he said, urging staff to actively learn and integrate such tools into their daily responsibilities to drive efficiency.
He also stressed the importance of integrity and accountability among staff, noting that the two pillars are essential in building public trust and confidence among stakeholders.

On his part, UDSM Vice Chancellor, Prof. William Anangisye, highlighted key gains made by the university across four strategic areas, including strengthened internal systems, improved financial control, staff recognition and overall welfare of the university community.
He said the institution has maintained clean audit certificates for four consecutive years, with audit queries significantly dropping from 86 to 34 — a sign of improved financial discipline.
Prof. Anangisye added that the university continues to benefit from the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project, which has boosted teaching infrastructure, strengthened research capacity and accelerated digital transformation efforts.
