UDP calls for clean politics as it shifts campaign to Lake Zone

DAR ES SALAAM: THE presidential candidate for the United Democratic Party (UDP), Saum Hussein Rashid, has called on Tanzanian citizens and all political aspirants to uphold national peace by engaging in clean politics ahead of the general elections scheduled for October 2025.

Speaking today, September 1, 2025, Saum Hassan emphasized the importance of avoiding politics of insults, mockery, and provocation.

In an interview with a local media outlet, Ms Hassan stressed that Tanzanians must recognize that there is life after the elections, and it is therefore not wise to disrupt peace for the sake of political competition. She urged all candidates to use the political platform to present their policies instead of resorting to personal attacks or inflammatory language.

Saum underscored that politicians have a critical role to play in strengthening the country’s democracy by leading with respectful and dignified language during their campaigns.

“There is life after the elections. Let us, as Tanzanians, preserve peace and calm throughout this election process. We, the politicians and candidates, must campaign by presenting our policies without insults, without mockery, because it is possible. We say: strengthen democracy and preserve peace. Let the policies speak,” she stated.

On the same day, the UDP is expected to officially launch its election campaigns in Magu District, Mwanza Region. The launch aims to set the tone for the party’s campaign strategy, with a core message focused on promoting peace, unity, and ethical campaigning in the broader interest of the nation.
