U-17 CECAFA CHAMPIONSHIP: Tanzania 3-2 Ethiopia
Serengeti Boys have launched their 2022 Under-17 CECAFA championship on gas pedal after outclassing Ethiopia 3-2 in a thrilling group A match at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia today.
Sylvester Otto netted a brace while Idrisa Iddi contributed one goal to enable Serengeti Boys stamp a convincing win whereas Biruk Seyoum scored twice for Ethiopia.
The outcome has seen Tanzania leading the group with 3 points thereby increasing their chances of making it all the way to the finals.
The contest is being used as a qualification platform for the 2023 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where the two finalists will book a ticket to represent the CECAFA region at the contest.
Six Under-17 national teams are therefore scrambling for an opportunity to slide into the finals in order to make it to the AFCON finals as two teams which will play in the finals claim qualification.
Tanzania’s envoys are in group A together with Ethiopia and South Sudan while in group B, there are Uganda, South Sudan and Burundi.
The team is under the tutelage of Kim Poulsen who has a big task to ensure that he drives them all the way to the finals in order to earn automatic qualification to the AFCON finals.
Before heading to Ethiopia, Serengeti Boys had fruitful drills in Arusha where they pitched camp to prepare the boys well prior to their deployment to the battlefield.
