DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and the US governments have reaffirmed commitment to strengthen and deepen the existing bilateral relationship and collaboration in both socio-political and economic strategic spheres.
This commitment was made by Minister for Defence and National Service Dr Stergomena Tax after meeting the US Department of State’s Acting Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Mr John Bass in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.
She said Mr Bass’s visit to the country is a testament to the good relationship between the two nations, which also demonstrates the great importance in continuing to maintain and strengthen the mutual understanding, cooperation, and friendship.
She added that for many years, there have been open discussions to build and establish a solid basis for cooperation between Tanzania and the US.
“I am confident that through our cooperation and relationship, we will not only address the challenges we face together but also take advantage of the opportunities available us to drive joint growth and prosperity,” said Dr Tax.
On his part, Mr Bass reiterated the US government’s commitment to deepening its bilateral relationship and collaboration with Tanzania, while expounding on how to explore avenues for enhancing the already established strong partnership between the two countries.
“We think there are opportunities to promote additional economic growth, build additional infrastructure here in Tanzania that enable this country to be part of the network of countries that provide the bunches of the raw materials, the refined critical minerals necessary to underpin the electrical battery technology and aspects of green economic technology,” said Mr Bass.

He stated that through the existing wide range of partnership with Tanzania, the US government is looking at additional ways in which they can further strengthen that partnership, so as to help Tanzania to realise a better economic future through increased economic growth, development, and increased employment.
Mr Bass further reaffirmed the US government’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with Tanzania that comes as a testament to the longstanding and multifaceted partnership between the two nations.
He stated that the US government is looking at promoting additional economic growth and building infrastructure that would enable Tanzania to benefits from its natural resources including the critical minerals necessary for the transition to green energy technologies.
Furthermore, he stated that the two countries also discussed the potential for more structured dialogues to identify and resolve any impediments to increased foreign direct investment and trade exchange between the US and Tanzania in the coming years.
The discussions also addressed strategies to boost investment, trade, and joint efforts against HIV/AIDS, underscoring US support for healthcare improvements and community empowerment in Tanzania.
He also expounded that the US government seek for better ways to intensely reduce HIV infection rates and provide better treatment options across the Tanzania society, including to marginalised communities.
The reaffirmation of the US government’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with Tanzania comes as a testament to the longstanding and multifaceted partnership between the two nations.
Moreover, the Under Secretary Bass shared an insight on the commitments the US government ought to take to increase and strengthen security in Chad and Sahel region in a fight against the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and the increasing security threat from extremists.
He also had an audience with Civil Society Round Table at the US Embassy.
