TZ begins Kwibuka Women’s T20 campaign with dominant win over Sierra Leo

KIGALI, RWANDA: THE Tanzania national women’s cricket team got off to a flying start at the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, registering a commanding 105-run victory over Sierra Leone in the tournament opener on Tuesday.
Batting first, Tanzania posted an imposing total of 152 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Star of the match, Neema Pius, led the charge with a superb unbeaten knock of 77 runs, laced with ten boundaries.
She also contributed with the ball, claiming one wicket to round off a brilliant all-round performance that earned her the Player of the Match award.
Sierra Leone, in reply, crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just 47 runs in 17.5 overs, falling short by a massive margin.

The win marks a strong start for Tanzania as they look to build momentum in the tournament, which features eight national teams include hosts Rwanda, Cameroon, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
The Tanzanian squad includes captain Fatuma Kibasu, along with key players such as Agnes Qwele, Mwanamvua Hamisi, Gerturda Mushi, Hudaa Mrisho and Jenipher Gabriel.
The team also features emerging talents like Neema Justine, Perice Kamunya, Saum Deo and Sophia Frank. They are under the guidance of Head Coach Imran Nackerdien, Assistant Coach Rijali Murisali Fentu and Team Matron Monica Pascal.
As the tournament progresses, Tanzania will look to maintain their winning form against tougher opponents, with upcoming fixtures against Uganda, Zimbabwe and hosts Rwanda expected to be critical in shaping the standings.
The Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament, held annually in remembrance of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, continues to grow in stature, serving as a key platform for promoting women’s cricket across Africa.
