Two fishermen feared drowned

THE Bukoba District Security Committee has arrived at Malehe fish landing site to conduct a search for two missing fishermen, who are feared to have drowned in Lake Victoria.
Bukoba District Commissioner (DC), Mr Erasto Sima told reporters that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds pounded Malehe camp on Sunday night where over 30 houses were unroofed.
“Three fishermen were on Lake Victoria fishing at around 1.a.m. when strong rain started accompanied by strong winds. The boat in which the three fishermen were doing their business capsized. One among them was rescued while two others went missing. Efforts to trace them were continuing,” he said.
He explained that efforts were also being made to collect food items for the families that have lost their houses
Mr Sima explained that the fishermen including children have been advised to relocate to safe area at Malehe village where they would be provided land.
He explained further that among the buildings demolished by the strong winds include a church owned by the Catholic diocese and a Red Cross office.
