Tanzania’s Twiga Stars hopes of retaining the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship have suffered a blow following a 2-1 loss to Zambia.
The two sides met at Isaac Wolfson Stadium in South Africa battling for a finals space of which the Zambian side have succeeded to secure.
The outcome means Twiga Stars will fight for the third-place finish and to reach this far, they outclassed Scotchers of Malawi 3-1 in a semifinal match.
However, Zambia were the first to open the scoreboard courtesy of Barbara Banda who netted in the 11th minute before conceding an own goal in the 30th minute by Margaret Belemu.
In the 46th minute, Chisha Misozi increased the tally to make it 2-1 for the Zambians which stood until the final whistle was blown.
Twiga Stars are featuring in the competition as a guest team and they managed to clinch the COSAFA silverware last year when they defeated Malawi 1-0.
Zambia will face either South Africa or Namibia in the finals as the duo are playing in a second semifinal match of the contest.
