TWIGA Stars’ sailed to the COSAFA Women’s Championship semifinal after eliminating Malawi with a 3-1 win at Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The victory was due to the team’s excellent work, lodging goals via Donisia Minja in the 20th minute, Diana Lucas in the 45th minute and Opa Clement who completed the goal festival in the 71st minute. Malawi got their consolation goal through Asimenye Simwaka.
Following their victory on Wednesday, they have bagged seven points. In their first encounter, Tanzania secured a 3-0 win over Comoros in the first encounter at Madibaz Stadium. Twiga Stars banked their victory through Donisia Minja in the 13th minute and Enekia Lunyamila, who scored a brace in the 41st and 52nd minutes of the game.
Lunyamila’s brace gave her the player of the match award. Twiga Stars met with Botswana in their second encounter and ended with a barren draw to Botswana at Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Another game played yesterday was between Botswana and Comoros.
The encounter completed with Botswana destroying Comoros 5-0 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Botswana lodged goals from Leongo Senwelo in the third minute, Lesego Radiakanyo in the 43rd minute, Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse scoring a brace in the 51st and 53rd minutes and Tshegofatso Mosotho scored the sixth goal in the 68th minute. Botswana have registered five points after yesterday’s encounter with two draws with Malawi and Tanzania.
Third are Malawi, after accumulating four points. Finally, at the bottom are Comoros without a point.
Other ground leaders are South Africa, which commands group A with seven points; Mozambique are second with five points, Angola with four points and Mauritius with no points.
Zambia commands group B after lodging nine points, Namibia are second with six points, Lesotho are third with three points, and Eswatini are tailing at the bottom.
