Tunduma customs collects 62bn/-, beats target by 20percent

TUNDUMA: OVER 62bn/-has been collected by the Tunduma Border Customs in Songwe Region during the first quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, achieving 120 percent performance compared to the target of 52.6bn/-.

According to Nsajigwa Mwambegele, the Assistant Regional Customs Manager, this collection trend shows strong progress toward meeting the overall revenue target of 212bn/- set for the 2025/26 financial year.

Speaking to the media outlets, Mwambegele noted that in the 2024/25 financial year, the same station also recorded significant success by collecting  204bn/-, equivalent to 119 percent performance of the projected 182bn/-.

He attributed this strong revenue performance to the availability of a reliable communication network provided by TTCL, which has ensured uninterrupted operations at the border.

“All these achievements are greatly supported by the presence of a strong network that enables us to work without any challenges,” Mwambegele said.

The Assistant Customs Manager pledged that the station—an important road transport link for cargo from the Port of Dar es Salaam heading to the southern regions of Tanzania and neighboring Zambia—will continue to provide efficient services for the benefit of the government and its customers.

Meanwhile, some customers receiving services at the station acknowledged the high-quality service delivery and praised the government for investing in communication infrastructure at the border.

A Tunduma resident, Timoth Simkonda, said the effective service provision at the customs station attracts many traders to use the border for transporting their goods because they do not experience unnecessary delays.
