TTCL Corporation subsidiary company, T-Pesa has launched a mobile phone-led insurance service which aims to reach over two million people in the next year.
Dubbed Bima na T-Pesa, the new insurance has three products which include housing, motor vehicle and personal insurance which will be processed through mobile phone services.
“T-Pesa have come with this product with the focus of simplifying purchases through mobile money services without travelling or filling papers,” said Ms Lulu Mkude, Director of T-Pesa
She said that the future of Bima na T-Pesa is to reach out to cover the agriculture sector where farmers will have their crops covered from possible risks within their areas using just their mobile phones.
The launched service according to Ms Mkude will have all processes like scheduled benefits and claim forms done online and hence, reduce the time for continued production.
Officiating the launching ceremony, the Commissioner of Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) Dr Baghayo Saqware congratulated TTCL Corporation and T-Pesa for joining hands with the government’s efforts for increasing insurance penetration.
He said that currently, the insurance sector contributes 1.68 per cent to the GDP and that the initiatives of increasing it include strengthening means of monitoring such sector for measuring actions needed to have it grow further.
“This is a very good creativity of taking insurance services near to citizens, I call for T-Pesa to adhere to professionalism and offer the best customer services. Abide by rules and regulations and TIRA is there to offer all needed support to reach many Tanzanians,” he insisted.
