TSN hails women’s growing role in the Tanzanian development

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Managing Director of the Tanzania Standard Newspapers Limited (TSN), Asha Dachi, has commended the growing role of women in leadership and national development, saying their participation continues to expand across key sectors of the economy.
Speaking ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026, in Dar es Salaam on Friday, Ms Dachi said TSN began its internal activities to commemorate the celebrations on March 1 where they held various training programs at the institute’s headquarters at TAZARA.

Today, women at the company culminated in a cake-cutting ceremony as part of efforts to recognize women’s contribution and progress toward achieving 50:50 gender equality, noting that women have currently reached about 30 per cent representation.
“We are proud of the achievements made so far. Women continue to demonstrate professionalism and reliability in their work,” she said.

Additionally, she said that the Tanzanian leadership under Samia Suluhu Hassan’s presidency has been a major inspiration in promoting women to take up leadership roles and participate actively in various sectors.

According to the MD, women are increasingly visible in sectors such as mining, tourism, health, education, sports, culture, and other economic activities, where they continue to perform effectively and contribute to national development.
She said this year’s theme, “Equal Rights for Women and Girls: A Foundation for an Inclusive Vision 2050,” highlights the importance of creating equal opportunities for women and girls to fully participate in building the nation’s future.

As part of the celebrations, TSN organized a series of activities, including mental health training sessions for staff, which involved both men and women, aimed at promoting well-being and workplace balance.
The organisation also plans to assist people in need at Muhimbili National Hospital, as part of its community outreach efforts during the International Women’s Day commemorations.
