TSC suspends teacher over absenteeism

DODOMA: THE Teachers’ Services Commission (TSC) has suspended Mr Maganga Japhet who is a teacher over school absenteeism.

This was revealed in a statement availed to the media yesterday by the Temeke District Executive Director (DED), Mr Elihuruma Mabelya.

Mr Japhet was a teacher at Tandika Primary School located at Tandika Ward in Temeke District, Dar es Salaam Region. According to the statement, the suspension took effect on December 5, 2023.

“Mr Japhet (Maganga) has been suspended over allegation of absenteeism at workplace as well as refusal to heed mandatory directives from his superiors,” the statement reads in part.

Prior to suspension, the Temeke Municipal Council released an announcement in September this year, calling for Mr Japhet to report to the school by October 1st, this year, but to no avail.

Mr Japhet was serving as General Secretary of the Tanzania Teachers’ Union (TTU) since 2017 under a special permit.

According to the statement, the permit expired in 2020 and his request for permit renewal was denied by the authorities.
