TRA reminds Tanzania’s taxpayers to submit tax returns before June 20, 2026

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has reminded taxpayers to submit their tax returns on time as the 2025/2026 financial year approaches its end.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam today, June 2, 2026, TRA Taxpayer Education Manager, CPA Paul Walalaze, urged taxpayers registered for Value Added Tax (VAT) to ensure they submit their VAT returns by the legal deadline noting June 20 is the deadline for submitting VAT returns for the month of May.
CPA Walalaze also reminded employers to submit employment-related tax returns by June 7, which is the statutory deadline under the tax laws.
He emphasized that Tanzania’s development depends on the contributions of its citizens through tax payments and encouraged business owners to continue issuing receipts for every sale they make.
“We are building Tanzania together. As a seller, remember to issue a receipt every time you sell a product or provide a service. A receipt is an important tool for your business and for building the national economy,” he said.
He commended taxpayers for the strong cooperation they have shown in voluntarily fulfilling their tax obligations.
Morever he noted this cooperation has enabled TRA to exceed its revenue collection targets for the 2025/2026 financial year.
He explained that the achievement was a result of the positive relationship between TRA and taxpayers.
According to him, the authority did not rely on forceful tax collection measures but instead invested significant time in providing education and raising awareness among business owners and taxpayers.
However, he called on taxpayers to maintain their cooperation during this crucial period as the financial year draws to a close.
He reminded them that the current financial year officially ends on June 30, making it important for every taxpayer to fulfill their obligations on time.
