TRA completes acquisition of Tabora United

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has officially ventured into the sports industry after completing the acquisition of Tabora United Football Club, which has now been renamed TRA United Sports Club.
According to a statement released today, September 19, 2025, TRA stated that the acquisition aims to provide entertainment to taxpayers and Tanzanians at large, while also using the team as a platform to promote voluntary tax compliance.
The team, which competes in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League, will remain based in Tabora Region but will now be directly managed by the TRA.

“This team will serve as a tool to educate the public on tax matters, the importance of paying taxes, and to spread messages of patriotism and accountability for national development,” the statement read.
In addition, TRA noted that through sports, it aims to support youth employment and talent development, while also strengthening social cohesion.
