TPDF unveils job opportunities for Tanzanian youth

DODOMA: THE Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) has announced new enlistment opportunities for Tanzanian youth with qualifications ranging from secondary to higher education, including those with rare and specialised professional skills.

Speaking in Dodoma on Wednesday, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for the TPDF, Colonel Gaudentius Ilonda, said the recruitment exercise will run from May 1 to May 14, 2025.

He said the recruitment targets professionals who, once enlisted, will undergo military training alongside career development training in their respective fields.

Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens with a National Identification Card, physically and mentally fit, of good conduct, and with no criminal record.

They must also present original birth certificates, academic and professional qualifications, and proof of having completed National Service through either voluntary or statutory contracts.

Col Ilonda explained that youth with Form Four and Form Six education must not exceed 24 years of age, diploma holders must be under 26 years, bachelor’s degree holders should be under 27 years, while specialist doctors must not be older than 35.

The military is particularly seeking to recruit various medical professionals, including general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, urologists, radiologists, ENT specialists, anaesthesiologists, physicians, ophthalmologists, paediatricians, obstetricians and gynaecologists, oncologists, pathologists, psychiatrists, emergency medical specialists and haematologists.

Additional medical cadres include medical doctors, dental surgeons, veterinary doctors, biomedical engineers, dental lab technicians, anaesthetic experts, radiographers, optometrists, physiotherapists, and aviation doctors.

In the field of engineering, the army is looking for graduates in electronic, mechanical, marine and aeronautic engineering, marine transportation, nautical science, meteorology, air traffic management, aviation management, and aircraft accident investigation. Skilled technicians in aluminium welding and metal fabrication are also being sought.

Applicants are required to include copies of their national ID or NIDA number, birth certificate, academic and professional certificates, and JKT certificates for those who completed the national service.

A valid mobile phone number must also be included in the application.

Col Ilonda emphasised that successful enlistment will depend on applicants meeting the required criteria.

He clarified that participation in JKT does not guarantee automatic recruitment into the armed forces.

He added that the increased focus on medical professionals aims to strengthen healthcare services in military hospitals for soldiers, their families, and nearby civilian communities.
