DAR ES SALAAM: EXCITEMENT is building up as the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam prepares to host its inaugural TPDF Lugalo Junior Golf Invitational Tournament. Chairman of the TPDF Lugalo Golf Club Juniors Golf Committee, Kain Mbaya, confirmed yesterday in Dar es Salaam that all preparations for the event have been completed.
The tournament is set to begin tomorrow and will run until Monday at the par-72 Lugalo course. This historic event will bring together over 80 junior golfers from across Tanzania, marking a significant milestone in the development of youth golf in the country.
Mbaya said that the tournament is eligible and open to all juniors’ boys and girls under 18, sponsored NCBA and Assemble Insurance.

He named categories to be contested during the one-day 18-hole tournament 18 holes for boys and girls, 9 holes and 3 holes for both boys and girls. Other categories to be contested at the tournament are putting competition, longest drive and nearest to the pin also both boys and girls.
Mbaya added that there will also be a special golf Clinic for beginners to be held on December 9th, offering beginners a chance to learn and experience the sport.
To spice up the junior tournament and ensure an inclusive and fun-filled experience, there will be an entertainment area for younger children who may be too young to participate in the tournament according to Mbaya.
“Please bring your whole family and let your kids discover the joy of golf!” that was the message.
The Juniors Golf Committee warmly encourages all juniors in Dar es Salaam to participate in the exciting event and those from upcountry. He said that whether seasoned players or first-timers, every junior golfer has a chance to shine. Organisers said that the success of this event relies on the collective support of the golf community. He insisted that golfers and all communities come together to nurture the next generation of golf talent.
