TPC brings Para Games ahead of Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Paralympic Committee (TPC) has said the upcoming Tanzania National Para Games 2026 will be used as a platform to select teams to be featured for qualifying missions of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
TPC Executive Committee has made a historic decision to establish and host the inaugural Para Games scheduled in October and November in Dar es Salaam.
According to the statement issued today, June 22, 2026 and signed by TPC Secretary General Ramadhan Namkoveka, the Tanzania Para Swimming National Talent Identification Gala will be held on October 10 this year.
It further disclosed that the Tanzania National Wheelchair Basketball Championship will take place on November 21 while the Tanzania National Para Games (Athletics, Powerlifting, Wheelchair Racing, and Goalball) will unfold on November 28.
“Specific venues for these events are currently being finalized in close coordination with relevant authorities…full logistical breakdown will be made public in due course,” said part of the statement.
Additionally, it indicated that TPC leadership has issued a strong directive to all national and regional sports associations across Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar, as well as sports stakeholders, to immediately commence training sessions and preparations for their teams and athletes.
“While training begins, TPC is working hand-in-hand with respective associations across both sides of the Union to finalize essential foundational and logistical arrangements.
“The Tanzania National Para Games will serve as the official launchpad for the country’s journey to the 2028 Los Angeles (LA28) Paralympics. TPC will utilize this platform to scout, vet, and select top-performing athletes.
“These athletes will represent Tanzania in World Championships to secure crucial International Classifications and achieve the qualification standards required for the global games.

“The qualification and international classification window officially opened on January 1, 2026, and will run until July 2, 2028.
“TPC’s core mission is to ensure that every individual with a disability has the opportunity to participate in sports for health, competition, and national representation.
“To achieve this, TPC is building robust systems to integrate external sports associations. Plans are also underway to include other disciplines not currently listed, ensuring that no athlete is left behind in this historic movement.
“Let us work together to bring about a true revolution and restore our nation’s dignity in para-sports,” said the statement.
