TPA hailed for Tanga Port’s efficiency as its cargo volume soars after major upgrades

MOROGORO: THE Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities), Prof Paramagamba Kabudi, has commended the Tanzania Ports Authority stating that major upgrades at the Tanga Port have boosted its efficiency, increased cargo volumes and attracted larger direct vessels from international markets,
Mr Kabudi made the remarks after visiting the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) pavilion at the 2026 Nanenane Eastern Zone Exhibition at Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere Grounds in Morogoro and commended that authority for the improvements at the port, saying the investment had begun delivering tangible economic benefits through increased cargo volumes and higher revenue for the port and the government.
Moreover, he also commended the government for its significant investment in upgrading Tanga Port, saying the improvements had strengthened the port’s capacity to handle more cargo and attract international shipping lines.
“The improvements at Tanga Port have increased efficiency, attracted more cargo and enabled larger vessels to dock directly from international markets,” Kabudi said.

Speaking on TPA’s participation in the exhibition, Peter Millanzi, representing the Port Manager, said the authority was using the platform to educate and encourage farmers to take advantage of port services to import agricultural inputs and export their produce to international markets.
He said the initiative was in line with the government’s drive to promote commercial agriculture and expand farmers’ access to external markets.
Millanzi added that Tanga Port had exceeded its targets for the 2025/26 financial year, describing the achievement as another positive outcome of the improvements undertaken at the port.
He said the continued growth in cargo volumes and revenue demonstrated the impact of the government’s investment in strengthening port infrastructure and services.
