TPA enhances port efficiency through infrastructure upgrades

COAST REGION: TANZANIA Ports Authority (TPA) has implemented a series of strategic initiatives, including infrastructure upgrades, adoption of advanced ICT systems and deeper collaboration with private sector stakeholders to boost efficiency in handling both domestic and international cargo across the country’s ports.
Speaking on behalf of TPA Director General Mr Plasduce Mbossa during the opening of a stakeholder meeting in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region on Thursday, TPA Deputy Director General, Engineer Dr Baraka Mdima said these ongoing efforts are aimed at improving operational performance and productivity at the ports.

“These measures are not only designed to enhance service delivery, but also to promote a culture of integrity and accountability among employees, clients and stakeholders,” said Dr Mdima.
He said the ultimate goal is to simplify trade along the Central Corridor and ensure greater efficiency.

He urged all participants in the meeting to openly discuss challenges facing the cargo transport sector and to collectively develop strategies that will improve efficiency, reduce operational costs and streamline trade activities through the corridor.
Dr Mdima reaffirmed TPA’s strong commitment to continued engagement with stakeholders, noting that the authority aims to transform the Central Corridor into a modern, highperforming trade route that supports economic growth in Tanzania and neighbouring countries.
Also speaking at the event, Mr Martin Masunga representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport assured participants that all feedback from stakeholders would be taken into consideration and addressed by the government in its ongoing efforts to eliminate delays and improve trade facilitation along the corridor.
The stakeholder meeting was organised by TPA under the oversight of the Ministry of Transport and was attended by a broad range of industry representatives.
These included the Tanzania Shipping Agents Association (TASAA), the Tanzania Customs Agents Association (TACAS), the Tanzania Shippers Council (TSC), the Council of Inland Dry Port Operators, the Tanzania Truck Owners Association (TATOA) and the Tanzania Medium and Small Truck Owners Association (TAMSTOA).
