Tourism Ministry’s dams project among 10 game security strategies

DODOMA: The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has outlined ten (10) strategies to address the challenges posed by dangerous and destructive wildlife for the fiscal year 2025/2026.

One of the strategies by the ministry is the procurement of two (2) helicopters through conservation institutions TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks) and NCAA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority).

Another strategy involves the excavation of 12  dams in 12 game reserves across 7 game-controlled areas and two national parks.

Additionally, other strategies include the drilling of 18 boreholes in six national parks and the construction of 19 ranger stations in areas facing serious challenges with dangerous and destructive wildlife within district councils.

Another key strategy is the construction of 50 cages in areas experiencing conflicts with crocodiles and hippos within district councils.

The use of technology to deal with dangerous and destructive wildlife is also included, through the purchase of 12 drones and 50 GPS satellite collars.

Other strategies include the procurement and distribution of 40,000 cold bombs in areas affected by elephants, continued strategic research to develop new methods of dealing with dangerous and destructive wildlife, and lastly, continuing to educate communities and strengthening Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs).
