Tourism College offers scholarship to Cooking Competition’s winner

DAR ES SALAAM: THE winner of the sixth season of the “Mkali wa Jiko” cooking competition is expected to walk away with a cash prize of 5m/- a scholarship to study at the National College of Tourism, and various employment opportunities.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, the competition coordinator, Zainabu Issa, said the sixth season aims to give young people an opportunity to showcase their cooking talents while gaining more knowledge about the tourism and food service industries.
She said food is an important part of both personal and national identity, adding that cooking is an art that requires creativity, precision, and proper recipe preparation skills.
“We invite different people to participate in this competition and demonstrate their cooking expertise. Cooking is an art that depends on creativity and the ability to prepare food with great skill,” said Zainabu.

She added that 20 contestants will be selected to take part in the program, which will run for four months before the grand finale scheduled for October this year.
Participant interviews are expected to take place on June 20, 2026, at the National College of Tourism in Dar es Salaam.
Contestants who pass the interview stage have been advised to follow the judges’ instructions carefully to improve their chances of performing well in the competition.
“It is entertainment, but also a platform to showcase your talent and cooking skills,” she added.
Speaking about the eligibility requirements, Zainabu said participants must be 18 years or older, while married contestants are required to obtain consent from their spouses before joining the competition.
Meanwhile, the trainer at the National College of Tourism, Ong’oso Mwita, said the institution is ready to offer educational opportunities to the winners in order to help them develop their professional skills in the tourism and food service sectors.
“We will provide educational opportunities at our college to participants who win this competition,” said Mwita.
