Top African architects seek to ink  blueprints of construction sector’s reforms in Arusha

DODOMA: ARUSHA will, from October 15 to 17, 2025, turn into a hub of construction expertise as more than 1,000 architects and quantity surveyors from within and outside the country converge for the 6th Annual General Meeting of the Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQRB).

The meeting, to be held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) under the theme ‘Smart Compliance: Empowering Professionals in a Regulated Environment,’ aims to strengthen collaboration and build professional capacity in the construction sector.

Speaking in Dodoma today, September 16, 2025, the Acting Registrar of the Board, Mr Daniel Matondo, stated that the meeting is part of the implementation of the Blueprint for Regulatory Reforms (2020), which calls for stronger institutional collaboration and professional capacity-building to enhance regulatory efficiency.

He said the high-profile national meeting will bring together stakeholders and professionals in the construction industry to discuss challenges and opportunities in key areas such as building permits and registration, workplace safety, fire compliance, environmental sustainability, professional ethics, legal liabilities, and compliance monitoring.

“The discussions will strengthen collaboration among regulatory bodies, build professional capacity, improve enforcement of construction laws, and ultimately promote safe, high-quality, and sustainable projects for the benefit of citizens and the nation,” Mr Matondo said.

Regulatory institutions to participate include AQRB, Engineers Registration Board (ERB), Contractors Registration Board (CRB), Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA), Fire and Rescue Force, Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), National Environment Management Council (NEMC), and the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI). Each will present papers or research based on their mandates.

Mr Matondo stressed that the meeting is compulsory for all professionals registered with AQRB and ERB, with participation accounting for 16 CPD or PDU points required for annual practising licences.

He added that this participation will foster national dialogue and strengthen the joint commitment to implementing construction regulations and guidelines

According to him, AQRB has invited foreign participants, including international architects, quantity surveyors, and professional boards, to share experiences and raise the global profile of the professions

“We expect to host over 1,500 guests, including foreign participants, during this major gathering, which will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn from our counterparts,” he noted.
