TMDA tables 5-year strategic plan to improve drug, medical device regulations

MOROGORO: THE Sixth Staff Council of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) has discussed three agendas to improve performance, including providing comments and recommendations on the TMDA’s five-year Strategic Plan (2026/27 – 2030/31).

Other agendas are the Draft Budget for the financial year 2026/27, as well as the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Plan.

The discussions were held from February 5 to 6, 2026 in Morogoro Region, bringing together members of the Management and TMDA Staff with the aim of discussing and agreeing on various institutional issues that have a significant contribution to improving the Authority’s performance.

Closing the meeting, the Director General of TMDA who is also the Chairman of the Staff Council, Dr Adam Fimbo, thanked the members of the Council for their constructive and improving views, emphasizing that staff are an important part of TMDA and their contribution is the pillar of the Authority’s success.

“The Staff Council is an important platform for participation and transparency in institutional decisions. Your ideas and opinions have made a significant contribution to strengthening performance systems and protecting public health,” said Dr Fimbo.

He said the main objective of the meeting was to discuss TMDA’s performance reports, identify existing opportunities and challenges, as well as to set joint strategies to improve the Authority’s systems and services.

Through the Staff Council, TMDA has been strengthening solidarity, accountability and open communication between Management and Staff, which helps to increase efficiency in the implementation of the Authority’s responsibilities to control the quality, safety and effectiveness of medicines, medical devices, reagents, and other regulated products, to protect public health.

 

TMDA will continue to value the contribution of the Staff Council as an important tool for participation in strategic decisions and the operation of the institution, in line to create a better working environment and provide better services to the community.
