TANZANIA Meteorological Authority (TMA) on Thursday explained why different parts of the country experience increased temperatures, attributing it to the overhead periods of the sun.
The authority informed the public that hot condition would continue throughout this month, particularly in areas which are expected to experience suppressed rains.
However, there is a likelihood of drop in temperature during December as rainfall increase is expected in some areas, according to TMA’s statement issued to the public.
The statement said there has been an increase in temperatures in some areas of the country.
This condition is due to the movement of the overhead sun coupled with suppressed rain in many areas as had been forecasted by the authority.
Usually, the overhead periods of the sun in the country peaks towards the end of November, when the sun is heading southwards (Tropical of Capricorn) and resumes in February when the sun is heading northwards (Tropical of Cancer).
Furthermore, the overhead sun is associated with temperature increase over the aforementioned areas since the earth’s surface is much closer to the sun than other areas.

The highest maximum temperature of 36.90C was recorded at Mpanda station, Katavi region on 26th October, 2022, the statement said.
