DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Ladies Golf Union (TGU) has urged ladies’ golfers to exploit an available career development opportunity.
Queen Siraki, the TLGU President, said in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday that the world golf governing bodies, the Royal Golf and Ancient Club (R & A) of Scotland, PGA of America Golf Professional and other golf stakeholders have unveiled several available career opportunities for them to apply.
“I would like to encourage those who would like to accelerate their careers in golf to utilise well the important opportunities,” she said.
Siraki noted that the latest available opportunity includes the ‘Women Who Want to Work in Golf’ events FORE HIRE, which announced solidified dates for its 2024 programme, which was created for former and current college golfers who are interested in pursuing a career in the golf industry. She said the programme provides a unique opportunity for education, professional development, career advancement and connection to potential employers.
“It is also designed to increase awareness of the availability of talented women looking to enter the golf business.” She said that the ‘Women Who Want to Work in Golf’ sessions are scheduled for May 19-21, 2024, and will be held in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship in Carlsbad, California.
The programme is presented in partnership with PGA of America Career Services and is hosted by Callaway Golf. It has been created in collaboration with the Women’s Golf Coaches Association, according to Siraki.
“Callaway is honoured to host FORE HIRE’s upcoming ‘Women Who Want to Work in Golf’ event. Together, we’re driving excellence and empowerment by creating a game-changing experience for all participants,” said Laura Lewis, Senior Director of America Sales-East and Chair of the company’s Employee Resource Group, TCB Women with Drive.
Participants will engage in various activities, including a tour of Callaway Golf headquarters, insightful seminars, networking sessions, and workshops to prepare them for the next steps in their careers. Participants will also learn about the career opportunities across the industry.
To be eligible, applicants must have played women’s college golf at any level during their college career and must be seeking full-time employment or an internship in the next 12 months. Women of all ages are encouraged to apply.
Those selected will be awarded a stipend for travel, hotel, meals and entertainment.
The deadline to apply is April 2, 2024, at 6 p.m. ET. The statement added that the success of the two events last year created more demand for this year. Of the participants from last year, 25 of the 60 have become employed or accepted an internship and more.
