TIRA, stakeholders lead initiatives to boost insurance awareness

DODOMA: THE Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) in collaboration with the Insurance Institute of Tanzania (IIT) and various insurance stakeholders has spearheaded a series of activities aimed at enhancing public awareness, demonstrating the sector’s commitment to social responsibility as part of the annual Insurance Day celebrations.

The three-day event, which began on Friday, featured socially impactful activities designed to bring insurance services closer to the people, they included a charity walk, a blood donation drive and a support initiative for patients at Dodoma Regional Hospital.

These activities were not only geared towards fostering a greater understanding of insurance but also aimed at addressing critical community needs, demonstrating the insurance sector’s commitment to social responsibility.

The charity walk served both a health-oriented activity and an educational platform. Participants, including insurance professionals, local residents, government and community leaders, came together to advocate for the benefits of insurance while enjoying a collective physical activity.

The walk provided an opportunity for engaging discussions about the role of insurance in offering financial protection and peace of mind against various risks.

Similarly, the blood donation drive significantly contributed to local health services, addressing a pressing need for blood in Dodoma regional hospitals.

The initiative not only underscored the insurance sector’s commitment to health and well-being but also provided a tangible benefit to the community.

TIRA’s Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Baghayo Saqware expressed his gratitude for the community’s involvement, emphasising the importance of continued engagement in the insurance sector.

Dr Saqware said the dual purpose of the events are to support charitable causes and to educate the public about insurance.

“The primary goal of insurance is to provide financial protection against a range of potential risks. By participating in these events, individuals are not only contributing to charitable causes but are also gaining valuable insights into how insurance can offer protection and support in challenging times,” Dr Saqware said.

Dr Saqware’s comments reflect a strategic vision to integrate insurance education into community activities effectively. “By aligning insurance awareness with socially responsible events, the sector aims to build a more informed public that recognises the importance of insurance in mitigating financial risks. This approach seeks to enhance public trust in insurance products and foster a greater understanding of how insurance serves as a safety net, providing financial stability during crises,” he added.

Through strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts, the insurance sector has made significant strides in enhancing public awareness and addressing critical community needs.

As the sector looks to the future, the lessons and successes of this year’s celebration will undoubtedly shape ongoing efforts to support and educate the citizens about the vital role of insurance.
