TGU welcomes visiting CHAN officials, fans to experience golf

DAR ES SALAAM: THE 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) is officially underway, jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda in a landmark regional partnership aimed at advancing football development across the East African Community region.
The tournament has already produced thrilling group-stage encounters, with passionate fans turning out in large numbers to support their national teams.
Matches are being played in multiple cities, including Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, Kampala and Zanzibar- offering visiting teams and fans a rich experience of East African culture, unity and sporting passion.
Speaking in support of the ongoing tournament, Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Chairman Gilman Kasiga extended his heartfelt congratulations to the organisers, participating teams and the football community for their role in promoting the beautiful game across the region.
Kasiga also took the opportunity to warmly welcome both local and international guests, inviting them to explore the world of golf during their stay in Tanzania.
“Tanzania offers some of the finest golf courses in the region,” he said.
“We welcome visitors to tee off at premier facilities such as the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam and Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club, as well as Seacliff Golf Club in Zanzibar, among others,” he said.

“We will be delighted to host guests at our courses and hope they take time to enjoy this elegant and rewarding sport during their stay,” Kasiga insisted.
On the football front, TGU expressed optimism in the Taifa Stars, Tanzania’s national team, to shine on home soil.
The Stars made a dominant start to their campaign with a resounding victory over Burkina Faso in the tournament opener held at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.
Kasiga also spoke on the broader impact of international sports events being hosted in Tanzania.
“Tanzania is now on the global sports map. With the successful Pamoja bid for AFCON 2027 and now CHAN 2024, the country has taken off. We must keep this momentum going and do even more,” he said.
However, he explained the need for sustained investment in grassroots sports development.
“We need to focus on nurturing talent from the grassroots level to unlock more opportunities for our youth to compete globally. The sports industry is vast and Tanzania must secure its place in the global sports economy,” he added.
