TFS’s e-Misitu app proves successful in boosting ecological tourism

DODOMA: THE Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi, has commended the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) for its innovative use of technology through the e-Misitu App, which is enhancing services for tourists and local communities while promoting ecological tourism across the country.

Dr Abbasi made the remarks recently during a visit to the TFS pavilion at the ongoing Public Services Exhibition Week, held at Chinangali Park in Dodoma City. He praised the app as a model of technological advancement that other government institutions should emulate.

“The e-Misitu App is a clear example of digital transformation in the public sector. It’s making a real difference in promoting ecological tourism, and I urge other institutions to follow TFS’s lead,” said Dr Abbasi.

The e-Misitu App is a digital platform developed by TFS to simplify how tourists access forest reserves. Through the app, users can plan visits, pay for services and explore a wide range of ecological attractions with ease and safety.

The app also enables users to access information on entertainment events, sports and cultural programmes hosted within forest reserves—making it a ones top solution for eco-tourism experiences.

“I commend TFS for this innovation and also for their creative marketing strategies, such as advertising in sports venues. This visibility on local platforms is crucial for promoting our tourism sector,” Dr Abbasi added.

Speaking at the event, TFS Assistant Senior Commissioner Harold Chipanha said that the agency is committed to implementing President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive to increase digital adoption in public institutions to boost efficiency and transparency.

“This year’s exhibition theme ‘Motivate the Use of Digital Systems to Enable Access to Information and Catalyse Accountability’ aligns perfectly with what we’re doing at TFS,” said Chipanha. “We are committed to further improving our services for the benefit of the nation.”
