TEN/MET calls for greater stakeholder support for education ahead of IQEC 2026

DAR ES SALAAM: EDUCATION stakeholders in Tanzania have been urged to work together with the government in mobilising adequate resources to improve the quality of education and ensure that every learner has access to quality education without being left behind.

The call was made by Martha Makala, National Coordinator of the Tanzania Education Network (TEN/MET), while speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam today about the International Quality Education Conference (IQEC 2026). She emphasised that financing education should not be viewed as the sole responsibility of the government, but rather as a shared responsibility requiring the participation of various stakeholders.

Makala said that although the government has the primary responsibility of ensuring that the right to education is fulfilled, the private sector, civil society organisations, development partners and citizens also have an important role to play in mobilising the resources needed to improve the education sector.

She stressed that collective efforts are essential to ensuring that adequate resources are available to support quality education for all learners. According to her, strengthening collaboration among stakeholders would help build an inclusive education system that provides equal learning opportunities and ensures that no student is left behind.

Makala noted that access to sufficient resources remains an important factor in improving the quality of education. She therefore called on stakeholders to recognise their respective roles and contribute towards addressing resource needs in the sector, while complementing the government’s efforts to provide quality education.

She said IQEC 2026 provides an important platform for education and development stakeholders to come together, exchange experiences and discuss strategies for improving education, including ways to strengthen stakeholder participation in financing and supporting the sector.

According to Makala, the conference will also provide an opportunity for participants to share ideas and experiences on sustainable approaches to ensuring that the resources required to deliver quality education are available. She emphasised the importance of collective commitment in creating a learning environment where all students have equal opportunities to succeed.

She added that improving education requires close cooperation among all stakeholders, noting that building a strong education system and ensuring that learners receive quality education cannot be achieved through government efforts alone. She called for a shared commitment to supporting initiatives that promote inclusive and equitable access to quality education.

Makala further encouraged education and development stakeholders, private sector representatives, civil society organisations, teachers, researchers, young people and citizens interested in shaping the future of education to participate in IQEC 2026.
