DAR ES SALAAM: RECURRING fire accidents in marketplaces like Kariakoo have led Marinc Systems Tanzania, a local tech company, to develop digital fire detection systems designed for early prevention of such disasters.
The new digital systems are designed to alert occupants and emergency services through mobile phones as soon as a potential fire is detected, thereby reducing the time needed to implement firefighting measures and minimising damage.
Marinc Systems Tanzania Managing Director Mr Daniel Emmanuel said that the company aims to replace traditional fire prevention methods with advanced digital solutions that detect potential fires before they occur.

“Our technology is an addressable fire system that notifies homeowners through their smartphones about fire indicators, unlike oldfashioned detectors that only sound an alarm after a fire has started,” Mr Emmanuel said during the company launching ceremony.
“We need to strengthen fire safety, especially with major construction projects like the Kariakoo Market redevelopment and ongoing real estate developments across the country.
“We are collaborating with stakeholders to ensure fire safety,” Mr Emmanuel said over the weekend.
The digital fire detection systems are versatile and suitable for installation in various settings, including factories, market places, hotels and homes.
Marinc Systems Head of East Africa Mr Ronald Marege emphasised that the automated detection system can alert the fire and rescue force to the precise location of a fire for immediate intervention.
Engineers Registration Board (ERB), Registrar Eng Benard Kavishe said: “You are addressing and solving issues in a way that is inclusive and forward-thinking.”
