DODOMA: THE Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has announced the conclusion of the first phase of admissions for undergraduate programmes at higher learning institutions across the country for the 2024/2025 academic year.
In addition, TCU has opened a second application window for students who missed the initial phase. This second phase begins today and will run until September 21.
At a press conference in Dodoma yesterday, TCU Executive Director Professor Charles Kihampa revealed that approximately 124,286 students applied to 86 accredited higher learning institutions during the first phase.
He also noted that 856 programmes have been approved for admission this year, up from 809 programmes in the 2023/2024 academic year—an increase of 47 programmes.
For the upcoming academic year, around 198,986 positions will be available, compared to 186,289 in the previous year, representing an increase of 12,697 positions or 6.8 per cent. Professor Kihampa explained that approximately 98,890 applicants, or 79.6 per cent, have secured admission to their preferred universities in the first phase.
Students who have received multiple admission offers are urged to confirm their choice of university between September 3 and September 21. The list of students with multiple admissions is available on the TCU website (www.tcu.go.tz).
“All applicants are reminded to address any issues related to their admission or confirmation directly with their respective universities,” Professor Kihampa advised.

He also noted that the number of students joining higher learning institutions is expected to rise after the second phase of admissions is completed. Professor Kihampa encouraged applicants who did not secure admission in the first phase to take advantage of this second opportunity and apply to their desired universities.
He urged universities to remain open to applications for programmes that still need students.
