TCRA calls for submission of ICT projects for global recognition

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has called on government institutions, private sector players, academia, civil society, and other stakeholders to submit information and communication technology (ICT) projects for international recognition under the 2026 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) initiatives.
The call follows an invitation by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with WSIS Action Lines facilitators, for global participation in the WSIS Stocktaking database and the prestigious WSIS Prizes 2026.
According to the Director General of TCRA, Dr Jabir Bakari, the initiatives aim to showcase innovative ICT solutions that support sustainable development and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Additionally, Dr Bakari said only one project per category may be submitted by each entity, urging applicants to review submission rules and nomination criteria through the WSIS platforms before applying.
“Stakeholders may also nominate impactful ICT projects even if they are not the original owners,” he said.
He also said that in addition to project submissions, the annual WSIS Photo Contest is open to the public, inviting photographs that demonstrate how ICTs contribute to achieving the SDGs. Three winners will be recognised during the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event.
According to the organisers, the list of nominated projects will be released on April 11, 2026, followed by public voting that will run until April 30.
Eighteen winning projects, alongside 72 champion initiatives, will be officially announced during the WSIS Prizes 2026 ceremony scheduled for July 6, 2026. Selected projects will also be featured in the WSIS Stocktaking Success Stories publication.
The deadline for project submissions is March 15, 2026, while entries for the photo contest close on March 20, 2026. Stakeholders can obtain detailed participation guidelines through official WSIS online platforms.
