TBS stages Viwango Marathon to mark its Golden Jubilee

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Bureau of Standards has organized a marathon known as the “Viwango Marathon” as part of celebrations marking 50 years since the establishment of the organization. The event also aims to promote the use of TBS-certified products and encourage healthy living through sports.

The marathon is expected to take place on May 23, 2026, at Leaders Club in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to journalists on May 18, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, TBS Inspection Officer and Chairperson of Sports at TBS, Engineer Nyabuchwenza Methusela, said the marathon also seeks to give back to the community through the donation of medical equipment and supplies to hospitals in need, in collaboration with sponsors and participants.

“Apart from running, this is a social event aimed at promoting the use of TBS-certified products, raising awareness about standards, and giving back to the community through support to hospitals in need,” said Engineer Nyabuchwenza.

He also invited members of the public, sports stakeholders, and various institutions to participate in the marathon by registering at a fee of 30,000 Tanzanian shillings per participant.

Meanwhile, another TBS Inspection Officer, Engineer Hassani Zaidi Amiri, said the marathon will feature 5-kilometer, 10-kilometer, and 21-kilometer races, providing opportunities for participants from different groups to compete according to their abilities.
