TBS marks 50 years with major national events

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) is set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years since its establishment in 1975, through a series of major national events including the Viwango Marathon, Viwango Business Forum and a special Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner.

Speaking to journalists, TBS Director General, Dr Ashura Katunzi, said the celebrations reflect the institution’s remarkable achievements over the past five decades in ensuring quality standards, product safety and service excellence across the country.

According to TBS, the theme of the celebrations is: “50 Years of Promoting Quality and Safety for Better Lives.”

“Key Events Scheduled for the Jubilee Celebrations Viwango Marathon May 23, 2026 at Leaders Club in Dar es Salaam.

“Viwango Business Forum June 5, 2026 at Mlimani City, bringing together business leaders, investors, manufacturers and standards experts to discuss the role of international standards in expanding trade opportunities.

“Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner June 5, 2026 at Mlimani City to honour former and current employees who have contributed to the success of TBS.

“Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme – June 16, 2026, where TBS will provide support to a hospital with special needs as part of its community outreach initiatives.

Grand Finale of the Jubilee Celebrations June 19, 2026, expected to bring together government leaders, private sector stakeholders and members of the business community to celebrate TBS’s 50-year journey and discuss future development goals.

TBS has called upon citizens, business stakeholders and the private sector to actively participate in the events, which are expected to provide opportunities for learning, business networking and promotion of products and services.

“For us, these celebrations represent 50 years of standards and 50 years of success,” TBS said.
