TBS certifies 139 industries in Lake Zone

SHINYAGA: THE Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has issued quality certification to 139 industries in Geita, Shinyanga and Kagera regions between September 2025 and April 2026.
TBS Western Lake Zone Manager, Mr Joseph Makene, said 41 of the certificates are new, while 98 were renewed after inspection and compliance verification. He said certification enables producers to expand market access, including exporting goods to neighbouring countries while strengthening consumer confidence in the domestic market.

“TBS encourages producers to certify their products and obtain the quality mark, which helps them compete effectively in both local and external markets,” he said.
Mr Makene noted that the bureau is continuing inspections and awareness campaigns, particularly in the beverage sector, to ensure compliance with standards and protect consumers. He warned that substandard products are removed from the market to prevent potential harm to the public.
The official also urged contractors to adhere to national standards in construction and road projects, stressing that TBS laboratories are equipped to test materials such as steel, roofing sheets and other building components
