TASWA envisions AFCON Kitaa to promote benefits of the Pamoja Finals co-hosting

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Sports Writers Association (TASWA) is set to launch the ‘AFCON Kitaa 2027’ campaign on October 30, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, as part of efforts to mobilise Tanzanians to embrace the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a national opportunity.

The campaign is expected to bring together various groups, including journalists, sports personalities, politicians, businesspeople, public servants, entrepreneurs, youth, women and students, with the aim of building a common national message that AFCON 2027 is an opportunity for the country, according to the TASWA Chairman, Mr Amir Mhando.

Tanzania will co-host the continental tournament with Kenya and Uganda.

Mr Mhando, who issued the TASWA statement in Dar es Salaam today, August 13, 2026, said the campaign will comprise a series of activities to be implemented by the association in the run-up to the tournament, with journalists expected to play a key role in informing and mobilising the public.

The statement added that ahead of the official launch, TASWA will conduct a series of workshops targeting different groups of sports journalists as part of its ‘The Future of Sports Journalism’ programme launched in April this year in Dar es Salaam.

“The workshops will bring together emerging journalists, senior journalists, sports analysts and sports editors, as well as current and former sports leaders. The initiative seeks to examine the future direction of sports journalism while preparing the profession for the opportunities and demands associated with AFCON 2027,” the TASWA Chairman stated.

TASWA launched the first phase of the programme on April 24, 2026, through a workshop involving emerging journalists, sports editors and veteran sports journalists.

Among the issues discussed was corruption in sports, presented by experts from the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB).

The association said the AFCON Kitaa 2027 campaign is expected to extend beyond the media fraternity and encourage Tanzanians across different sectors to actively participate in preparations for the continental football showcase.
