TASI supports clean cooking drive with gas cylinder distribution
DODOMA: The Tanzania Awareness and Support Initiative (TASI) has joined other institutions across the world in celebrating International Women’s Day by distributing gas cylinders to women in Mlezi Ward, Dodoma Region, as part of efforts to promote the use of clean cooking energy in the country.
Celebrated annually on March 8, International Women’s Day serves as a platform that unites women, government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, activists, and non-state actors to discuss various issues related to gender equality, reproductive rights, and other oppressive systems that exist within communities.
This year’s event was marked by the theme: “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment.”
TASI took the opportunity on Saturday to support government initiatives aimed at increasing clean energy adoption nationwide.

The organization also educated women on the safe and efficient use of gas and other clean energy sources, such as electricity.
Speaking at the event, TASI’s Project Officer, Mr. Deus Sigili, emphasized the significant impact of clean energy in reducing respiratory diseases caused by smoke from traditional fuels, mitigating climate change effects, and lowering incidents of gender-based violence associated with the time-consuming task of collecting firewood and charcoal.

“TASI fully supports the government’s efforts, under the leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to ensure that Tanzanians have access to clean cooking energy and are encouraged to use it safely and efficiently,” said Mr. Sigili.
The initiative was warmly received by Mlezi residents, with many women expressing their gratitude, noting that the support would help reduce their energy costs and improve their health by decreasing their reliance on firewood and charcoal.
