TASAF-funded Kinyikani Health Centre to boost healthcare access in Wete District

ZANZIBAR: KUSINI Pemba Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Mr Amour Hamad Saleh, has called on the residents of Wete District to safeguard the infrastructure of Kinyikani Health Centre to ensure its long-term use in delivering quality healthcare services.

The health centre, built with support from TASAF, significantly eases access to medical services for the people of Wete District and surrounding areas.

Mr Saleh who presented appreciation certificates to the members of the committees that played a key role in overseeing and facilitating the construction of the centre asked the residents to maintain the centre for effective and quality medical services provision.

The construction of the health centre has cost a total of 552m/-, which includes buildings for essential services for outpatient care, a maternal and child health building as well as two staff houses.

“This centre is very important as it has made it easier to access quality healthcare services that were previously unavailable in these areas,” he said.

He added: “It is crucial for both the community and the management committee to continue protecting this infrastructure to ensure its longterm benefits.”

Speaking on behalf of TASAF’s Executive Director, Mr Shedrack Mziray, TASAF’s Director of Coordination, Ms Haika Shaya said that TASAF is continuing the government’s efforts to reduce poverty among households lacking basic necessities, enabling those economically disadvantaged households to increase income, access economic opportunities and meet their daily needs while building human capital.

“This fund helps build infrastructure in communities with deficiencies in sectors such as education, healthcare, rural roads or social services, making it easier for people to access these services,” he said.

In addressing the challenges facing the people of Zanzibar, TASAF Program through its second phase allocated 3.1bn/- for the construction of 15 infrastructure development projects in the Education, Health and Water sectors.

“For the 2023/24 financial year, TASAF is implementing a total of seven infrastructure projects worth over 1.32bn/-in Pemba.

These projects cover various sectors, including health and one of them is the construction of the Kinyikani Health Center, which has been completed and is now providing services,” he added.

For his part, the Secretary of the Community Supervisory Committee, Amour Khamis Amour, expressed gratitude to the Government through TASAF for implementing projects that facilitate easier access to social services.

“This project is very important to us, and we will continue to maintain it for the benefit of both the present and the future,” he said.
