TASAC alerts the public to strictly use authorized passenger vessels for water transport

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Shipping Agency Corporation (TASAC) has advised the public using water transport to exercise caution and ensure they board only vessels officially authorized to carry passengers, while avoiding cargo vessels that are not legally permitted to transport people.
According to a public statement issued by TASAC, there have been reported cases of some individuals boarding cargo vessels illegally, increasing the risk of accidents and endangering lives. TASAC emphasized that cargo vessels are neither designed nor authorized to carry passengers, and using them contrary to regulations raises significant safety risks, especially during bad weather or night travel.
The statement stressed that every water transport vessel should be used only for its legally approved purpose. Owners and operators are required to comply with safety regulations to protect the lives of passengers and their property.

The agency continues to call on the public to cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure water transport safety is maintained by adhering to established laws and procedures.
