TARURA affirms high-standard works in all its assigned road and bridge projects

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has stepped up quality assurance for infrastructure projects through its network of modern laboratories, reinforcing efforts to ensure roads, bridges and other public infrastructure are built to high standards and remain durable.

Speaking at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba, TARURA Research and Quality Control Technician Jacob Manguye said the laboratories play a critical role in testing construction materials and verifying the quality of works before, during and after project implementation.

He said laboratory experts conduct comprehensive tests on construction materials before they are used and inspect works undertaken by contractors to ensure they comply with engineering standards and contractual requirements.

“We verify the quality of aggregates, asphalt, bridges and other infrastructure works to ensure projects meet the highest standards and serve the public for many years,” Manguye said.

He noted that TARURA currently operates a central laboratory at its headquarters in Dodoma and 14 regional laboratories, including those in Kigoma, Arusha and Moshi, providing testing services that enhance efficiency, accountability and value for money in the implementation of development projects.

Manguye added that the agency also owns a specialised geotechnical investigation machine capable of assessing soil strength before construction begins, enabling engineers to determine the suitability of sites for bridges, buildings and other major infrastructure while reducing the risk of structural failure.

Moreover, he called on contractors, engineers, construction firms and other stakeholders to utilise TARURA’s laboratory services to ensure all infrastructure projects comply with the required quality standards and deliver long-term benefits to the public.
