Tanzanians join Indian Prime Minister Modi to mourn the death of Pope Francis

INDIA: INDIAN Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the fastest world leader to react to the demise of the death of Pope Francis with others including Tanzanians joined him in expressing deep sorrow following the news of the death of the leader of the global Catholic Church.

The Pope passed away today at 1:35 am local time at his residence in Casa Santa Marta, after battling a long-term illness—pneumonia affecting both lungs.

Through his official X account (formerly Twitter), Narendra Modi shared a heartfelt message of condolence and respect for the spiritual leader, stating: “Deeply pained by the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.

Many Tanzanians countrywide were  also  deeply saddened by the news of his death which came as they are still in mnarking the Easter Monday.

In this hour of grief and remembrance, my heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community. Pope Francis will always be remembered as a beacon of compassion, humility, and spiritual courage. From a young age, he devoted himself to living by the teachings of Lord Christ. He diligently served the poor and the marginalized. For those who were suffering, he ignited a spirit of hope.”

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted how he was inspired by Pope Francis’ commitment to inclusive development for all people. He fondly recalled their past meetings, noting how deeply he was touched by the Pope’s love and care for the people of India. He described the Pope as a leader dedicated to justice, equality, and human dignity.

Modi concluded his message by praying for Pope Francis’ soul to rest in eternal peace in God’s embrace, emphasizing that the world would always remember him for his immense contributions to spiritual and social service.

Mr Adelgot Komba, a resident of Mbezi Mshikamano, Dar es Salaam, said he read the sad news on the Vatican News website, and it shocked him.

“It came out while most of us were still celebrating the resurrection of our Lord. Rest in peace, our Pope,” added Prosper Kavishe a resident of Mbezi kwa Musuguri.
