Tanzanian regions tasked to have  special days for addressing people’s grievances

ARUSHA: THE Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office-Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Prof Riziki Shemdoe, has directed all Regional Commissioners in the country to supervise their councils to establish special days for listening to citizens’ complaints and grievances at the ward level.

The minister issued the directives during the opening of the 12th General Meeting of the Union of Regional and Council Education Officers of Tanzania Mainland in Arusha noting that the aim is to make it easier for the public to access services and resolve local challenges.

Additionally, he said that it is important for Council Directors and the Council Management Team (CMT) to be close to citizens and listen to their concerns early, rather than waiting for them to emerge during visits by senior national leaders.

Elaborating, he said that the absence of a structured system for hearing citizens at the council level has led to many complaints surfacing only during visits by national leaders, particularly during the ongoing visits by the Prime Minister.
