Tanzanian female footballer shortlisted for CAF’s golden gloves award

TANZANIA: National women’s football team Twiga Stars goalkeeper Najiat Abbas has been shortlisted for the 2023 CAF goalkeeper of the year (women) awards.

She is going to battle against other nine nominees in the category who are Kaylin Swart (South Africa), Catherine Musonda (Zambia), Cynthia Shongwe (Zimbabwe) and Andile Dlamini (Nigeria).

Others are Khadija Er-rmichi (Morocco), Dolores Masongo (Equatorial Guinea), Imane Abdelahad (Morocco) and Ange Bawou (Cameroon).

In the category of club of the year (women) awards, Tanzania’s JKT Queens will compete against Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) and AS Mande (Mali).

Other teams are AS FAR (Morocco), SC Casablanca (Morocco), Atletico Casablanca (Cote D’Ivoire), Huracanes (Equatorial Guinea) and Ampem Darkoa Ladies (Ghana).

Also, in the category of young player of the year (women), Tanzania is represented by Winfrida Gerald who battles against Fauzia Najjeumba (Uganda), Thubelihle Shamase (South Africa), Hapsatou Diallo (Senegal) and Deborah Abiodun (Nigeria).

Other contestants are Esther Ajakaye (Nigeria), Oluwatosin Demehin (Nigeria), Comfort Yeboah (Ghana), Mary Amponsah (Ghana) and Nesryne El Chad (Morocco).

For the category of the team of the year (women), Tanzania go head to head against Morocco, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Burundi and Ghana.
