Tanzania, World Bank seal key technical preps for KAZI MPA project along its central development corridor

DODOMA: TANZANIA and the World Bank have concluded key technical preparations for a major programme aimed at creating more jobs for young people and strengthening economic growth along the Central Development Corridor.

The programme, known as Catalyzing Jobs and Resilient Growth in the Central Corridor Multiphase Programmatic Approach (KAZI MPA), is expected to boost investment, strengthen private-sector participation and improve Tanzania’s competitiveness in regional and international markets.

The development emerged during a meeting between the government and a World Bank delegation held at the Ministry of Finance, Treasury Square, Dodoma, to review the outcome of joint preparations and agree on the next steps towards finalising the programme.

The government delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office–Planning and Executive Secretary of the National Planning Commission, Dr Tausi Kida, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr Natu El-Maamry Mwamba.

The meeting reviewed key areas of implementation of KAZI MPA, with both sides stressing the programme’s potential to drive economic transformation, attract investment and enhance private-sector participation in Tanzania’s economic development.

KAZI MPA is expected to expand employment opportunities, particularly for young people, while improving economic infrastructure and creating a more conducive environment for businesses operating along the Central Corridor.

The programme is also expected to strengthen Tanzania’s position in regional and global markets by supporting infrastructure development and improving the conditions necessary for trade and productive economic activities.

Its implementation is expected to contribute to efforts to translate the objectives of Tanzania Development Vision 2050 into practical interventions, particularly the goal of building a productive, inclusive and resilient economy that enables citizens to participate fully in production and trade.

Other members of the government delegation included Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office–Regional Administration and Local Government, Adolf Ndunguru; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Agness Meena; Acting Permanent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Nsubil Joshua; Deputy Permanent Secretaries in the Ministry of Agriculture, Prof Peter Msoffe and Engineer Athumani Kilundumya; and Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Planning Commission, Sosthenes Kewe.

The World Bank delegation was led by the bank’s manager, with the two sides expected to continue working on the remaining steps towards finalising the programme.
