Tanzania, US agree to bolster ties in health, agriculture, energy, mining, education, tourism

NAIROBI: TANZANIA and the United States of America have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across various development sectors, including health, agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure, education and tourism, with the aim of expanding economic opportunities and improving the welfare of citizens in both countries.

The commitment was expressed during a meeting between Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Finance, Laurent Luswetula, and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, Erin Browne, in Nairobi, Kenya. The talks were held on the sidelines of a High-Level Dialogue of Finance Ministers on strengthening joint investment in the health sector.

During the meeting, Luswetula invited US companies and investors to take advantage of the wide range of investment opportunities available in Tanzania. He identified agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure, health, education and tourism as among the sectors offering significant investment potential.

The Deputy Minister also expressed appreciation to the US Government for its continued cooperation with Tanzania and its contribution to various development initiatives since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1968. He said the longstanding partnership has played an important role in Tanzania’s efforts to promote social and economic development and reduce poverty.

For her part, Browne said the United States would continue working with Tanzania across various development areas, while seeking to further strengthen and expand the existing partnership between the two countries.

She said continued cooperation would be important in creating development opportunities and deepening economic relations between Tanzania and the United States, particularly in areas capable of driving investment and delivering long-term benefits to citizens.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of creating an enabling environment for increased economic cooperation and investment between Tanzania and the United States. The two sides emphasised the need to leverage opportunities across various sectors to boost investment, employment, production and broader socio-economic development.
