Tanzania unveils a plan to construct a Referral Hospital in Rufiji

UTETE: THE MINISTER for Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, has said that the government has conducted an assessment to build a Rufiji Regional Referral Hospital to reduce the hardship of citizens traveling long distances to seek health services.

Minister Mchengerwa made this known when he spoke to the people of Utete while expressing his condolences to the victims of the cyclone who lost their property and shelter.

He said that Rufiji is a large district, which makes it difficult for its citizens when natural disasters such as cyclones occur to travel a long distance of more than 300 kilometers to seek health services at the Temeke Referral Hospital.

“Our President loves us and me as the Minister of Health. Our tradition is to bring health services closer to the citizens. We have seen this within the Ministry, and my colleagues have come to assess how we are helping the citizens of Rufiji, Kilwa, Kibiti, Mafia, and Mkuranga.”

He said the government has already allocated 960 m/- to add buildings and renovate infrastructure at Utete District Hospital before the process of building the Referral Hospital begins.

In addition, Minister Mchengerwa has called on district leaders and the Director to expedite processes so that the renovation is carried out early and the citizens receive the best services.
