Tanzania, Turkiye seek to increase trade volume to r 1bn US dollars

ANKARA: TANZANIA and Turkiye have begun a meeting to explore ways to improve bilateral trade relations and work towards increasing the trade volume to 1bn US dollars.

Ther Tanzanian delegation led by Iddi Seif Bakari, the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Turkey, has visited the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and held official talks  with the Turkish  Vice President of the Chamber, Ahmet Özer. Several Tanzanian institutions participated in the tour,, including the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (CPB), the Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board (WRRB), the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission (TCDC), and the Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX).

The discussions held today, September 10, 2025,  focused on enhancing trade and investment between Tanzania and Turkey by injecting new economic momentum and expanding the scope of strategic cooperation. Both sides explored ways to improve bilateral trade relations and work towards increasing the trade volume to USD 1 billion.

Sempeho Manongi, Director of Business Development at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, presented key investment and business opportunities in Tanzania. He highlighted potential sectors including mining, agriculture, livestock, tourism, and infrastructure, encouraging Turkish investors to explore and capitalize on these opportunities.

On their part, Ahmet Özer and his delegation expressed a strong commitment to strengthening collaboration with Tanzania’s private sector. They emphasized their readiness to work closely with the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce and private institutions to promote mutually beneficial trade relations between the two countries.

Before concluding the visit, the Tanzanian delegation extended an official invitation to Turkish businesses to visit Tanzania. The goal is to facilitate engagement with Tanzanian counterparts, share information, explore opportunities, and collaborate on strategic projects across various sectors.

This visit comes at a time when Tanzania and Turkey are in the final stages of concluding a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and an agreement to establish a Joint Trade Committee. These developments aim to further improve the trade environment and attract more investment from both sides for the economic benefit of the two nations.
